Engagement activities designed to bring your whole team together using uMap™.

OBSERVATIONS | 3 mins per person + 5 min reflection

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Everyone must be assigned a partner. Have each team member view their partner's uMap™. Ask them to complete the following three sentences about that person using their uMap™ as a point of reference. 1) One thing I see in you is..., 2) One thing I appreciate about you is..., and 3) One thing I see in you that you may not see in yourself is... Once reflection time is over, go around the room and share how you competed each question and why.

I’M MOST LIKE... | 3 mins per person

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Allow each team member five minutes to explore other team members' uMap™ and identify commonalities that they share. Following the search, each person presents their findings to the group and explains why they believe they are most similar to that particular team member.

YOU THINK YOU KNOW THEM | 10 mins

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Have each team member share their Favorite Quote tile. Ask them to talk about how that quote has influenced with them through their life and how it resonates with them currently. You’ll learn something new about the people that you thought you knew!

UMAP™ TRIVIA | 15 mins

Prep: Prepare a competitive quiz on Kahoot.com | Supplies Needed: Kahoot! App

Activity: This uMap™ Trivia game is a great way to showcase who knows your team best. Start by looking through each uMap™ of your team members. Find their favorite items like foods, drinks, restaurants, color, quote, superpowers, other personality traits. From there, the organizer can use an app like Kahoot! to turn the uMap™ information into a fun quiz about their team. People have to pick the correct multiple-choice answer as to which team member likes what. The winner is the person who knows the others the best, but who also answers correctly the fastest. On top of the entertainment, it’s a great opportunity to bond and learn more about each other.

UMAP™ STIR FRY | 30 mins

Prep: Schedule a lunch | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Take the opportunity to get to know other people across other teams in your organization. Arrange a weekly lunch that brings a group of people who don’t usually work together to spend time sharing their uMap™. The more connected people are across the organization, the better!

ONE WORD | 5 mins

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Display each team members uMap™ one at a time. Have each person take turns sharing one word that they believe describes the team members' uMap™ displayed. For example, you could use the word "Resourceful" to describe Joe because he has "Mr. Fix It" listed as a Super Power at Home.

WORD OF THE MONTH | 15 mins

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Instead of a New Year’s resolution, have your team members pick a word to focus on each month. It should be a word that encompasses something that they’d like to improve on or begin adopting into their life AND relates to one of their personal or professional goals on their uMap™. For example, the word “gratitude” could be used for someone who has a personal goal to start being more appreciative of others or start setting time aside to recognize the good things in their day. This word can be added to your uMap™ on the Brand Icon tile, in the space meant for a tagline. Schedule a small portion of your monthly team meeting for everyone to share the word they chose and why.

TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE | 15 mins

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Using information from your uMap™, write down two things that are listed that are true about you. Then, choose one thing that people might think was on your uMap™ or that would fit in with something you might put on your uMap™ and write that down as your lie. Go around the table and have each person share the three things they wrote down. Ask team members to identify your two truths and your lie. Then, share your uMap™ to prove it!

DIG FOR BURIED TREASURE | 15 mins

Prep: Create 10-20 questions for the Treasure Hunt | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Everyone loves a treasure hunt and you’re never too old to join in on the fun. For this activity everyone will need access to their uMap™ account. Have everyone pull up the “Team uMaps” page to view each other’s uMap’s. Split your team into 2 or more groups. Give them the list of items for the treasure hunt. The group that finds all the items first wins.

Here are some example questions

  1. Find a uMap™ with iced tea listed as their favorite drink.

  2. Find a uMap™ with a dog listed under their Important People & Pets (bonus point for the dogs name).

  3. Find a uMap™ with a personal goal listed as traveling somewhere outside the US.

  4. Find a uMap™ with a hire date listed before 3.1.2019.

  5. Find a uMap™ that uses the word “Organization”.

Important Note: Verify that your team members have selected "Share my uMap™ with the organization". This will allow their uMap™ to be viewable for this game. Learn how here.

GUESS WHO | 10 mins

Prep: Team members favorite candy, snack, or drink | Supplies Needed: Paper and writing utensil

Activity: For in-person meetings, look at each attendee’s uMap™ and grab their favorite snack, candy, or drink. Remember to keep a list! Set the items out on a table and number each item. When the attendees arrive, ask them to number a piece of paper and guess what # food item belongs to each person. If you are so inclined, have a prize for the person who gets the most guesses correct!

For remote meetings, you could create a slide with pictures of individuals’ favorite snack, candy, or drink and share it with your group instead of having the actual snacks.

BONUS: Send your team members their favorite item so they can share it with the group during the reveal.

MUSEUM OF FAILURES | 10-15 min

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Leaders go first! Each team member will look at their own uMap™, focusing on a personal or professional goal, quote or super power for reference. Then, sharing one by one and starting with the leaders, team members will share an experience in which they “failed” relating back to a goal, quote or superpower that is on their uMap™. They should also share how this “failure” may have turned into a happy mistake that led to a success down the road or a lesson learned. Sharing these experiences aloud breaks down the status barriers that may exist on teams and humanizes everyone, including the leader.

CHARADES/PICTIONARY| 15 mins

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Divide the group into teams and select a section of the uMap™ to concentrate on, preferably the Favorites section. Choose an item from that section and either draw it or act it out for your team members to guess. For instance, if your favorite activity is camping, you could act out setting up a tent. The team that guesses five items correctly first is declared the winner.

GROUP SERVICE GUIDE | Full-day

Prep: Choose your cause | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Declare a service day for your team. Choose a non-profit or organization that is on a team member’s uMap™ and volunteer your time together at that place.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT | 15 mins

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: Paper and writing utensil

Activity: Ask everyone to use a pen or pencil to draw a line down the middle of their paper and label the left column “guesses” and the right column “retail price.”

Now, ask everyone to look on their uMap™ for their favorite snack, drink or candy item that they know the retail price of (Googling is fine!). Go around the group as each person tells or shows their item (can be a photo). The rest of the team will guess the retail price of that item and write it down in their “guesses” column. Once the whole group has taken their turn, ask everyone to total their “guesses” column, including the price of their own item.

Next, have each person share the retail price for their item, record them in the “retail price” column, and find the total. The winner is the person whose “guessed” column total is closest to the “retail price” total.

LIVIN' THE VALUES | 10 mins

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: Recognizing how team members are living our your values in their day-to-day not only helps your team celebrate wins, but helps the values be carried out as intended. This activity helps keep all team members accountable to living the values each week. If you haven’t already, consider adding your organization’s values to a front-facing tile on your uMap™. In your weekly team meetings, take a few minutes to have each team member recognize someone else for living the values since the last time you met. The team member would share who they are recognizing, what value they are being recognized for, and what that team member did to live out the value.

WEEKLY GOAL REVIEW | 10 mins

Prep: None | Supplies Needed: None

Activity: During a weekly meeting, ask your team members to provide a brief update of the progress toward their goals. At this time, each team member will pull up their uMap™ and refer to the Key Performance Indicator tile. (Your organization may have customized the title of this tile.) Team members should update the team on 1) Progress made 2) What’s gone well 3) Challenges experienced 4) Lessons learned.
