The Connection Matters Activity was designed to strengthen the relationships within organizations, with uMap™ serving as the central focus. It's an excellent method for introducing uMap™ to your team for the first time.

Setting Up

Before the activity, log in to the software and download the uMap™ of every person who will be participating in the activity. You'll want to ensure that you have an in-person or virtual space where everyone can see each uMap™ in great detail.

Instructions

  1. Begin by understanding that sharing personal information may be difficult for some team members. To ease any anxiety or skepticism, have the most senior leader in the group share their uMap™ first. This will set the tone of the exercise.

  2. When sharing, we recommend sharing only the information from the right side of the uMap™. This activity is about connecting personally, not professionally.

  3. Once the leader of the group finishes sharing, go around one by one.

  4. As each person finishes sharing their uMap™, ask others in the group to share any connections or observations they made.

  5. Once the whole team has finished sharing, ask if anyone learned anything new or made new connections based on what they heard from their peers.

Helpful Tip

The image below shares some ideas to think about while listening to others share their uMap™:

  • Commonalities - What things did you learn that you have in common?

  • Emotions - Did you attach emotionally to the stories they shared?

  • Shared Experiences - What shared experiences can you relate with?

  • Strengths - What unique strengths did you find interesting?
